Overview

summe is a Chrome extension that summarizes web pages using AI. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and who we share it with. We keep it simple because we keep your data minimal.

What data we collect

Email address

When you sign up for your free trial, we ask for your email address. We use this to identify you as a user and, if you request it, to send summaries to your inbox. Your email is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage and is also submitted to Formspree to be delivered to us.

Web page content

When you click Summarize, summe reads the visible text content of the page you are on. This text is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate your summary. We do not store, log, or retain any page content after the summary is returned.

What data we do not collect

We do not collect your name, address, payment information, passwords, location, browsing history, or any other personal information beyond your email address. We do not use keystroke logging, mouse tracking, or any form of behavioral analytics.

Third-party services

summe uses the following third-party services to function:

  • Google Gemini API — receives the text of the page you are summarizing in order to generate a summary. Google's privacy policy applies to data processed through their API.
  • Formspree — receives your email address when you sign up. Formspree's privacy policy applies.
  • Resend — used to send email summaries to you when you request it. Resend's privacy policy applies.
  • ExtensionPay — handles payment processing if you upgrade to a paid plan. ExtensionPay's privacy policy applies.

How we use your data

  • Your email is used to grant you access to the free trial and to send summaries when you request them.
  • Page content is used only to generate your summary and is not retained after the request completes.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

Data storage

Your email address and free trial usage count are stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in local storage. This data never leaves your device except when your email is submitted at signup.

Data retention

Your email and usage count remain in your browser's local storage until you uninstall the extension or clear the extension's data. We do not maintain a user database beyond what Formspree receives at signup.

Your rights

You can request deletion of your email from our records at any time by contacting us. You can also clear your local extension data at any time by going to Chrome settings and clearing the extension's storage.
